My first attempt at a slam

Good Job :goodjob: You've really stuck to it with a lot of challenges and difficult circumstances!!!

I hope you pass your OCLT tonight! :swim:  :snorkle:

I couldn’t have done it without you guys. Fingers crossed because I’m out of bleach lol. I over did it a bit this afternoon because it dropped to 8 (or I screwed up the test somehow). At 7pm it was at 19!

Im gonna check it before bed and get up at like 4:30 and check it again.

My overnight test:10pm fc was 17 4:30am fc was 16.5 guess I’m done? Just keep fc at 4 now? Going back to bed lol.

Congratulations! Now, considering your FC was 16.5 at 4:30 a.m., keep track of your weekly results. Although, allow to drift down to about 6-8 ppm, before you start tracking and your additions. Then average over one week, and with this weather you should not be burning off more than 2 ppm daily, that is assuming you will experience cooler weather and no one is using the pool. The weather here will be pretty bad over the next week, at least I think. My pool, when I really kept track of things, burned off about 1.33 on average daily with limited use, even in the summer. With regular use, no more than 1.66 ppm weekly. You will get the hang of your pool.

It’s hot and muggy here right now with thunderstorms possible everyday. And that pool is gonna get used like crazy for the next month because I have to shut it down in oct.

Thank you for all the help! Did you guys notice my new gold badge?!

Been fun following along..... I am prepping myself for a slam in the future.... looks like a tremendous amount of work... where did you go to learn the process best?

the pool school on this site is the best way to start. Pick up a tf-100 kit (or the other one) ahead of time. Start a thread here and post your results and a picture daily the same way I did and everyone will help you along the way. It’s not so bad just have to keep pushing forward. Oh and your gonna need some bleach.

If you want to avoid (99.99% effectiveness), then follow the CYA/FC chart, test your water weekly, and daily with the Taylor K-1000 kit. Never allow your levels to fall below the threshold & brush weekly, or more often depending on your circulation system. I only had spots of algae once this year due to slowing down of circulation (solar cover) long story. It only took less than an hour to clear up, and passed the overnight without problems. Outside of this, algae free since joining TFP.

You will know your pool and the signs, especially if you have crystal clear water. Taking care of a potential problem will be quick and easy as you will never let your pool get that way, unless away on vacation for an extended period of time.

Yay!! Thanks!! This thread was very interesting to follow and very glad you have arrived. Keep your FC a little higher than you need to. This is my way of being sure the pool stays ok if I forget to add chlorine one day. Err on the side of slightly high and not even a little low!
