I just purchased an MX8 and have noticed an unusual amount of suction is needed. I literally need to run my pump at max RPM and all other values closed in order for it to do 10 revolutions between 20-25 seconds. The pump also starts to get air inside the canister because of the flow restriction.

I noticed that the vacuum comes with a flow regulator that goes between the hose and the vacuum. The ports on the side are fully open because of having so much flow, but the vacuum still operates at the top end of 24-25 seconds for 19 rotations. If I cover the ports on the side of the flow regulator I can cut my RPM to 2750, operate the skimmer as well and get 10 rotations in 21-22 seconds.

Has anybody ditched the flow regulator and just got an adapter to connect the hose direct?

I have no experience with that type cleaner as the robot I have works so well.

Let's see if this :bump: will generate some input.

I just received a hose adapter today that I purchased on Amazon which does not have the flow regulator. What a difference it has made.

With the stock flow regulator if the skimmer and vacuum were both open with pump at 3450 RPM the vacuum wouldn't move at all. Now with hose connected to vacuum without the flow regulator, the vacuum moves at the top end of 10 rotations every 25 seconds. Close the skimmer a hair and it's perfect.

Even better, I can just have the vacuum on with skimmer closed and run the pump at 2500 RPM and the vacuum is doing 10 rotations every 21 seconds which is the perfect speed to get it to climb the walls. I setup automation to have vacuum run 2 hours a day with drain and skimmer closed with pump at 2500rpm.

To anybody having slowness issues with their MX8/MX6 or unnecessarily having to bump up their pump RPMs, get rid of the flow regulator and connect the hose to the vacuum with the following connector:
