Note that acid is heavier then water. If poured into still water acid will settle to the bottom and affect the surface due to the localized very low pH.

You should stir the water with your pool pole in the area you added acid even with the pump running.

That also seems like a TON of MA to add if your PH was 7.8 when you started. I use one of these to measure the exact volume needed and use the bucket method mentioned earlier in this thread.

My pool is 17.5k gallons and it would have been a small amount of acid needed to lower my PH down to 7.2-7.4.
