Land O'Lakes/Florida
We just moved from Ill-annoy to Florida and the house we bought has swg pool. All of our belongings were still in boxes so I took water sample to pinch-a-penny. chlorine was 0, salt was 2100, PH 7.8, cya 0, i forget what the hardness was but i added 8lbs of increaser and it brought it into range.
We didn't know the gallons of our pool but the store had 12000 for the address in their computer.
per their instruction i added 4 cups muriatic acid and 120lbs of salt. The PH went to 7.5 but the salt went to 4200.

When i was cleaning the salt cell i noticed on the inside of the controller cabinet was written 8000 gal 2006. The pool was installed in 2006 so I assume it was wriiten by the installer. My wife stopped into the store with a sample and told them to change our pool to 8000 gal. They said to add 8lbs hardness increaser, 4lb Stabilizer and 20oz sodium dichlor shock.
With my taylor kit 2 days later the Chlorine is 20 and I turned off the SWG two days ago. PH 7.8, Hardness 200, Alkalinity 80, the SWG is reading 4300 and CYA is 80. I'm afraid I'm going to have to drain some to get it right. I never had a single problem in 9 years using BBB in our pool in Ill-annoy.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to FL.

Regarding pool size if you go to pool math there is an approximation if you get the dimension and depth. If you have conflicting info I'd use that to see which is closer. you don't want to end up putting too much salt in so the SWG doesn't work and you end up having to drain

I run my SWG pool with about 3200 - 3500. CYA at 80

If you can figure out what equipment you have try adding it to your signature.

EDIT: I missed your 2nd results I think you look ok now if your SWG runs at 4300 with no errors and that salt concentration doesn't bother you in the water. Our rain will dilute it fast enough. The FC is still below shock level for your CYA it will go down and shouldn't hurt anything.

U,

A CYA of 80 is just fine for a SWCG pool. Your salt level may, or may not, be too high depending on the brand of SWCG you have. Some work at higher levels than others.

With an FC of 20 I would not worry about the pH as it can't be reliably tested when the FC is over 10.

With a CYA of 80 a salt pool should have an FC of 6... See this ... [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

All and all, I'd say you are in pretty good shape..

Let us know which SWCG you have..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you for the responses. Sorry I have been too busy unpacking to respond. My chlorine is slowly coming down, it is at 14 now. The other day I opened the main drain and closed the skimmer add put the hose in the pool. I let it run and let the auto leveler drain the pool. Hoping to dilute the salt and chlorine. The salt is at 3900 now so it may have worked. I can't wait to be done unpacking and sit and enjoy this pool!
