Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting. We have a 12 X 24 Blue Hawaiian fiberglass pool. We had the pool installed in 2019 by a reputable builder with hundreds of pools put in by them in our area. Having said that, this pool was installed with a slight bow in one lateral wall and unfortunately, it was not caught until after the cement collar was put in. We were given the option of removing the cement and having them fix the pool wall, but the risks of damaging the pool seemed high, so we decided to live with the imperfection. It is a very slight bow, but causes the pool coping to have a larger overhang on one side compared to the other to maintain a straight line. There is also a very slight dip in the rim of the pool, which challenged our masonry contractor to lay more mortar underneath the coping to keep it level with the rest of pool rim which is perfectly level. The masonry contractor did a great job keeping things level, but he did a terrible job at smoothing out this thick line of mortar around the pool. There are voids, rough spots, uneven spots, spots where it is crumbling and has fallen out etc. They also did a terrible job with the cuts around the 2 ft radius inner corners and it's just sloppy altogether. The grout lines are also uneven and the cuts in the patio stones around the coping look like my 7 year old did them. .....From afar (see picture), you cannot tell it's bad, but when you get up close or are in the water (at the water line)....it's atrocious. Anyways, I hate how it looks, but my husband thinks it's going to be far too big of a job to do over.
My question to you all is ---is my husband correct? Should I just live with the shotty work, even though I cringe everytime I look at it? Do you think I'll find another contractor that will take on this job? I have had a few say that they don't want the liability of the work (given the bow in the pool wall etc. etc.). Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. I've attached a picture of the pool at installation showing the slight bow in the pool wall and pictures of the mortar work. The pictures are of the best areas of mortar. I can't seem to capture how bad the rest of it is, but trust me it's awful
. Thanks in advance!
