newbie here - what is the minimum decking needed around a pool to secure a safety cover? We were thinking of going 4' of decking on one side but is that enough to secure a safety cover?

My narrow side is only that wide ( 3 - 4 feet). Worked fine for our safety cover for years until we added the auto cover.
ok - thanks. How many inches from the side of the pool does the safety cover attach to the decking? And while we are not considering an auto cover right now - but may in the future - do you need any more or less space?
Also, with the narrow side being 3-4 feet did you ever feel it was too narrow?

I think the pins are about a foot from the edge of the pool. The auto cover needs room for the motor head. That sticks out a couple of feet more than the width of the cover. Three sides of my pool coping are wide (8 feet or more). The motor head would have blocked most of the narrow side if we had put it on that side.
My pool and my house are separated by a grassy play area. I didn't want people sitting with their backs to the house and the play area so that side of the decking is just wide enough to walk on. The other three sides are much wider so people can walk, sit on chairs, etc.
