Hi all,

Failed the OCLT and had a CC of 1. Had started a SLAM we had torrential rains, and I had to go out of town for a few days so had to abandon. Also my CYA was too high (90) and I wanted to both make the slam easier and get the CYA more in range for the summer.

Successively did a no drain water swap today (thanks TFP!) and my current levels are linked in my profile.

I think I want to leave the CYa at 60 for the SLAM and then bring up after it’s really done to 70?

Don’t feel like I care about the salt right now, as I’m not running it during the slam.

pH level is not measured recently as the FC was high(er) for the slam and still is over 10. I had knocked it down to 7.2 pre slam but apparently didn’t record that confirmation.

So.. I’m clearly going to add Liquid Cl to get it to slam level (24) from the now swapped 11, but my real question is the CH. it’s at 110 so my CSI is -.79 which looks scary. I have SOME (maybe 15-20 pounds) of Calcium Chloride and will have more shipped to be here Friday. Not a lot of Ice Melt in Atlanta this time of year (or ever)

Should I dump in what I have now to bump it or should I leave that be and focus on the FC to Slam? First slam (part 2) and want to do it right. Thanks y’all!

Correct. Every +10 CYA adds +4 FC to the slam target. Lower CYA is better.

If you have the bandwidth to focus on only that for a bit, it can be added anytime. It may help pass the time towards the end when you're just waiting on the filter impatiently.

Make sure to get your baseline before adding.

Worse things happened in the world today. Like. Many many things.

Id let the CH be for now because it may cause cloudiness and then you're wondering if it's slam related or not.

But it wont hurt besides that.

Ignore your CH level and CSI until after the SLAM.

Fix one problem at a time.

Low CSI is only a problem if it continues for months. A few weeks of a SLAM will not affect your plaster. And adding liquid chlorine will temporarily raise your pH and CSI. So it will not be as low as you think.
