Hi. So my heater wasn’t working for a bit. So a YouTube video showed me how to bypass the membrane. Sure enough a $30 part saved the day. Or so I thought. After firing up for a bit - I noticed the sound of slightly restricted airflow (just sounded off and some whistling). However, seemed to be just fine. After about 5 minutes - I noticed a horrific smell and smoke out of the exhaust. I immediately shut it down. Does anyone know if I can ‘burn off’ a few more times? Or do I need to get in and remove the dead mice? Appreciate it.

Hey Noles and Welcome !! You should stick around here cuz lemme tell ya ...... just when you thought you’ve read it all...... BAM !!! Lol. I’ll defer to some experts who should be around shortly on whether it’s ok to burn off the flesh, But the bones would probably remain. At the very least the thicker ones like the skull. You’re probably going to have to unclog it.

I don't know if it's ok to burn off. I would assume so but I bought this because mice are a problem here.
Mice and rats are a problem worldwide. In Asia, mice and rats consume or contaminate enough grain to feed 200 million people. We need more cats.

Then you have to control the cats with dogs and then you have to control the dogs with wolves, then you have to control the wolves with hyenas, then you have to control the hyenas with lions, then you have to control the lions with elephants, then you have to control the elephants with aliens with lasers. Just saying.

Thanks all. This is a funny group. Guess I need to get ‘in there’. Does anyone have insight into how I would even start? It seems apparent that the flames are making direct contact with the mice. But I am not familiar enough with the heater to know where to clean. Wish I could get a pro to assist...but all appear to be booked until October! Ugh. Thanks.

If the mouse, or what’s let of it, is in one of the pipes/tubes you will need to find a way to snake it. A metal coat hanger with a bent end will work on a straight piece. Bend the tip to form an ‘L’, insert to the mouse and twist a little to try and snag it to pull it out. If it’s trapped in a curved pipe you’ll need something with some give to it that is bendy, but not too bendy. I have found that a length of Romex electric wire works well for these situations. Strip out one of the conductors as long as you need and try the same as above
Thanks all. This is a funny group
When people can learn *and* have some fun while doing it, they tend to stick around to lend their own knowledge for future helping and the collective hive gets even smarter. Everybody wins.
