It is clean as clean can be. When starting up the impeller at the top puts out a gush of water then nothing, everything shuts down. I can turn the tracks they arent jammed, the impeller on top turns freely. The unit is a year old. Any suggestions on what the issue might be?

Likely something went bad inside the motor assembly. Since it’s only a year old I suggest you call up Maytronics and initiate a warranty repair. They will likely replace the motor assembly with a new one.
