Manual Pool Fill Lines?

We recently moved into a house with a pool that was built in the 1980s. There was originally a spa, but it was filled in before we moved in. All of the pool equipment is inside a cabana which has hot and cold water supply lines coming in from the house. The two lines shown in the picture T off of the cold water line in the pool equipment room in the cabana, each have a shut off valve and go underground. These are not the supply from the house, those come in through a different area in the cabana.

Since there are two separate cold water lines, the only thing I can think of is that they are old fill lines for the pool and spa, but there is no exposed fill lines in the pool. We had the pool renovated a couple of years ago (plaster, tile, skimmer replacement, and coping) and I did not see anything while it was under construction.

I am curious if these could these be old fill lines that were tied into a return line or a skimmer line. Does anyone know if that is that a way that these used to be installed?

I don't think any of us will have an idea where those water lines go.

Very fair, I guess I was just curious if it was a common practice to tie a manual fill line into the return lines underground in the 80s. I will test it out when I open.

Duf,

I'm pretty sure that NO hot water lines are going to your pool...

I have a cold water fill line that goes to a hole in the back of my skimmer.

Let us know what you find...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Seems like alot of work with the plumbing easily accessible nearby. You'd need canisters in the patio with float valves to make them automatic fill lines. Manual lines would tie in right there.

If those were abandoned autofills they'd be cut and capped right there so they weren't ever accidentally turned on and left full to freeze over winter.

But then again there is no telling what Harry Homeowner or the cheapest bidder did.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Both are cold water lines and go down through the concrete with the pool bonding wire. The pipes are angled toward the pool (and spa that was filled in), so them being old fill lines from the 80s is just a guess. I had a plumber take a look while they were working on the house and they had no clue, but assumed it had to do with the pool. It's the only part of my pool and cabana plumbing that I haven't figured out yet, and I don't like not knowing.

When I pull the pool plugs I will put some air in the lines and see what happens. I am hoping they are just abandoned lines and I can remove them, if they are tied in somehow I will have to figure out what to do with them.
