I have a Pentair UltraTemp heat pump that I winterize every year by manually turning the 3-way valves to bypass it so I can drain it, shut off the power, etc... but yet, still keep my filter pump running. I just ordered a new Jandy JXIQ gas heater with the built-in VersaFlo bypass that I plan to plumb inline after the Pentair heat pump.
My question....do I need to install a similar manual bypass with 3-way valves to also bypass the new Jandy JXIQ gas heater so I can winterize it, I.e. drain it, shut off the power/gas, etc.. or does the VersaFlo do this automatically without the power being turned on? In other words, I want to drain and winterize both heaters, but I still need my filter pump to run.
