As you added the CYA granules directly through the skimmer, you need to wait a week before testing. And no backwashing during that time.
Adding water was fine.

Usually 24-48 hours after the add, using the sock method. Migh take a bit longer in the filter.

Just leave the pool in filter mode. If you are leaving for a week, no use testing. Let it run and test when you get back. How much did you add?

CYA is like salt. It does not go away with evaporation. Adding water is just fine.

No, we don't generally recommend tabs in the skimmer here. They really create some problematic water chemistry that can harm your pump's front end. Best to get a floating tab soaker for a few bucks and let it distribute to the pool itself, not a return line.
 
Yeah, if you have tabs in the skimmer and your pool pump stops for a bit it will load up your skimmer with acidic water, leading to potential damage to the skimmer, and then to the equipment when the pump restarts.

The only chemical that should be added to the skimmer is DE (if you have a filter that uses it).
