Looking for DE Filter Recommendations

It's time to replace my current DE filter. I'm not sure how old it is, it was here when we bought the house 12 years ago. I have a 25k gallon pool and a 1hp Hayward pump. I'm pretty certain that I want to stay with DE but could use some thoughts or suggestions.

Right now the Pentair Quad is on the top of my list but not sure if I should go for the 80 or 100. I was also looking at some of the Hayward filters but I like the cartridge style filters of the Quad instead of the typical fin style cartridge. It seems like they'd be much easier to get clean. It looks like the Quad gets pretty good feedback here at TFP, anything else I should be looking at? What about size?

Thanks,
Aaron

When my DE filter finally gets replaced, I'm going sand. I can always add some DE to it if I want more filtering. Just imagine a backwash that requires nothing but throwing the switch and twisting a knob a few times. Don't even have to set down your coffee.

The Pentair QuadDE is an excellent filter. I have the 100 on a 16k pool and I clean it out once per year. I never backwash. The pressure barely rises 10% over that entire time. YMMV as my pool doesn’t see a lot of heavy debris and I use hairnets in my skimmer basket to capture most visible debris.

It’s a good filter and it’s very easy to take apart and clean. It’s certainly still a chore, I spend about 4 hours or so on a Saturday cleaning it out, lubing everything up, checking for damaged components, etc.,. But that’s 4 hours once per year and then I never bother with it again. So it’s a very good time saver.

I always recommend getting the biggest filter you can afford. Bigger is never an issue, too small can cause problems and need frequent cleaning.

I should mention that I live in OH so I only have the pool open 5-6 months of the year. I'll have to take it apart and clean it every fall no matter what. Would the 80 get my 25k pool through the season or would I be better off with the 100?

I figured I'd get some people suggesting that I switch to a cartridge filter. I'm not entirely opposed to that but I've never had one and haven't really looked into them. Feel free to suggest some that I might want to check out.
