Went on a search to find those pics.. didn't see any..but did find many other people in the boat that I'm in...
Do I need to post in another area.. now that my original question has been asked, because now it will be asking help with algae? Just want to follow protocol.
If you've found those other threads with swamps, you've doubtless read the questions and replies and seen the links to the pool school articles. What more is there to ask?

Here's my pool water. http://s296.photobucket.com/user/wmorge ... ool%20pics

Richard :-D I will try my best not to ask to many questions .. since I have read and read . I just wanted to say how wonderful this site is ... You all are so patient with answering the same questions over and over with people including general chatting on totally off topic subject relating to our personal lives..

I do believe we made a break through... I am seeing a nice shade of teal instead of Chartreuse. My last shot of Chlorine was at 12:30a. I was dive bombed by the bats ( freaks me out ) but I brought it up to 17 which is over my shock level at 14 for the night. Here are my #'s today and a pic. Still learning how to post a picture.. sorry.

Here is my pool from this morning. My cleaner has ran all day and I've only had to empty my leaf canister once... so the bottom is getting clean. :whoot: Also how long can I expect to become crystal clear?? My little helper is ready to jump in.
Can I use a Flocc or a clarifier to help speed things up??
Thank you!

Re: Need help with TA

It appears I made a mistake. I need help correcting TA. I also have 2 question. First..about cc's. Is it normal for that to go up and down during shocking process? And second., What's the difference between sodium carbonate and bicarbonate? My research tells me bicarb( baking soda) is a milder form... I had a bottle of PH rise from last year. (carbonate).

On Wed.
fc 14 cc .05
ph 6.8 or lower.. the color wasn't matching the lowest color indicator.
cya 35
ta 120
ch 390

Yesterday: I added 64 oz of PH rise, only half of what the calculator was telling me to add.
cc's had raised to 2.. that was a bit of a downer when it was .05 the day before.
This morning. FC 14 CC 1.5 PH 7.4 TA 200. What did I do wrong with TA?

They're two different chemicals. But you picked the right one to raise pH.

The TA might be caused by static electricity on the bottle of R-009. Retest TA but wipe the tip with a damp paper towel before and between drops and see what you get. Also remember that with FC above 10, pH is not always accurate and the TA test may turn from green>pink to blue>yellow.

Re: Nearing the end.. Yes!!

6-9 12:30a fc 10.5 cc 1.5. I must have over shot for the night with 6a morning reading at fc 16.cc 1.5. That's good though right because

at least I didn"t loose anything and by 3:30p it only dropped to 13 with direct sunlight. my cc's dropped to 1. It looks like I am nearing

the end . . now to pass that water clarity test. .. so I wait. Day 11.. granted my first 4 days were not productive

because of not knowing what I was doing..

My 14 year old son jumped in yesterday for a few minutes.. I told him if his flesh started melting don't come crying to me!

My TA has also gone down from 200 to 150. It must have been testing error.

Re: DE question?

Sorry I asked this question on another thread too. I found this product at Rural King 4lb bag for $8 It is used as an insecticide/ pesticide such as fleas, ticks for animals. Is this what I need? It's been 3 weeks and my pool is still cloudy so ready to try to put some in my sand filter.
Thanks
Nita

Thanks, I will keep looking for the right type of DE. Also, please help me understand my pressure gauge better. My gauge usually reads 10 to 14, when it reaches 20 I back wash. I read that the gauge should drop to 0 when pump is turned off. I admit to never really watching closely but I see that it does drop. I back wash, rinse and turn pump back on. Tonight I took the time and waited for it to drop completely to 0 before back washing. It took a minute or so to completely drop. Is this time frame normal? Should I be allowing it to drop to 0 each time? It has been 3 or more years since our sand has been inspected or cleaned. Our pipes have all been glued and bonded at each connection so it's not an easy un-thread and pop open kinda deal.. pipes have to be cut to access the filter sand, don't know if this is the norm either... Should we inspect the sand before we add the DE?

You do not have to wait for it to drop. That is just a good way to confirm if the gauge is still good.

It really should not be fluctuating between 10-14 though when the pump is running. Mine does not move at all. Waiting all the way up to 20 to clean is too long, but I am not sure what pressure to suggest since you do not have a single "clean" pressure reported.

It certainly would not hurt to inspect the sand. When you cut the pipes, add unions so it is easier in the future.

We bought a new gauge last year and stored it inside over winter so I believe it's working properly. I just wanted clarification on how it should be working. It doesn't fluctuate just a slow climb as it goes up.. I guess I have been waiting to long to back wash. I did try some clarifier against TFP advice... had to learn the hard way LOL.. I put in about 10 oz it helped a little bit .. more of a mess than anything with all the white sludge laying on top of the water. I was able to skim most of it off with the net.
Casey: My water is clearing at a snails pace. lol
