Liquid chlorine not doing the trick

The higher the concentration the more susceptible to degradation it is. A bottle that is listed at 10% that has been subjected to poor storage (like out in the hot outside garden area of a big box store) or old may very well be degraded below the marked %.

TaB,

If you measured 7 ppm and 6 hours later it was 4 ppm than I would think that something is consuming your FC...

This time a year, in the DFW area, you should not be loosing that amount of chlorine per hour.

I suggest you do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test... OCLT... Here is how....Overnight Chlorine Loss Test The hardest part is getting your rear out of bed before sunup... :p

I say this "assuming" that your CYA is around 50 ppm...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yes, I put enough chlorine to bring it to 7 but did not retest to make sure it ever got to 7... Is 30 minutes really enough time to restest after adding chlorine.

Thank you for your response.

I but my kemteck from kroger

With pump running 30 minutes should be sufficient to re-test after adding chlorine. If you wish, you could push your brush around a bit to mix it better.

Take care.

Can you find the date code on your bottle? Most liquid chlorine products have a 5 digit date code
Either the first 2 or the last 2 will be the year it was produced (17, though some are still finding 16 on shelves) the other 3 will be 001-366 (day code)
So something like (examples only) 17201 or 20117 <- that links to a Julian calendar day list

I am using TF-100
Date code 17 167

This morning chlorine was at 4ppm. I added 78oz kemteck 10%
Just tested water, it's an hour later. Only 5.5 ppm in water.

Cya is at 30

Using PoolMath, It's acting more like 3.75% bleach (adding 78oz of 3.75% bleach raises the chlorine 1ppm in 20,000gal)

It's a Jun 15th date code, so not terrible. -
- Is it stored inside? (the store & at your home?)
- Is your pool gallons estimate accurate? To

You can test your Chlorine, (if you want) do you have a 5gal bucket handy? If you fill it with water to 5gal, then add 1TSP of your liquid chlorine, that should register as 10ppm on your test.

Good for you for actually testing after an application and verifying your actual FC level. Best not to assume the concentration of recently purchased chlorine until you know for sure. Assuming concentration then relying on calculations and models based on a guess makes accurate decisions impossible.

I never purchase Kemtech chlorine. Our Lowes carries it and they always store it outside in the sun. I've been using the Pool Essentials 10% chlorine from Walmart cause it's kept inside where it's air conditioned.

Can we jump back for a second as something seems off. Can you post a full set of test results from your personal FAS/DPD kit??
