Liquid chlorine color

Have been going to the same pool store for 3 years for liquid chlorine refills and it has always been the same yellow color and a bit of a bleach smell.
Went to the store on Sunday to refill my 10L jug and when I went to put some in the water today noticed that it was clear (colorless) and odorless which I found unusual.

Going to check with the store tomorrow but thought I would ask if anyone has seen this before. Does this mean it is not fresh and been sitting around a long time?

We burn through over $8,000 of LC a month on our routes and the color varies among pallets from the same supplier.

if you're concerned, as proavia suggested, you should test it.

Try and get a comparible concentration from a retail store (10% or 12.5%) and dilute it in cup and test it in equivalence against your new refill.

If it's close, then yes, it's fine.

Sodium hypochlorite is artificially colored. And the intensity of the color will vary, if its present at all. Manufacturers do the same with muriatic; except it's more common to see colorless acid than chlorine.

Smell is subjective. Lots of variables determine if it's going to smell when you take a whiff. But I'd advise against that. If you manage to get it up your nose good enough, you'll damage mucosa and everything will smell funny for a few days. Chlorine is non-descriminant. It'll kill cells in your nose.

Don't ask me how I know 😆
