Changed all pool light bulbs to LED this year including Spa. Also switched to SWCG. A couple months later the spa light stops working. I just got around to dealing with it and found this hole in the housing. The housing is original to the pool I would guess (1997). Any chance the bulb or SWCG conversions caused this? Just don’t want to replace with another and have this happen again.

Seems like a lot of damage in a short period of time.

Maybe the damage was hidden beneath the label.

Maybe it got really hot for some reason and burned a hole?

In any case, you need a new light.

What voltage are the lights?

Can you show a picture from the inside?

Are the lights on a GFCI?
The lights are on a GFCI. 120v lights. The LED light is 15w. Here’s the inside.

I’m thinking it’s heat related but unsure why…

The light bulb is too big for the fixture and it was pushing the spring against the wall.

Maybe the spring gets hot and it burned a hole?

You should only use an approved lightbulb as specified by the manufacturer.

I am not sure what the spring does.

I found this quote:

Found this online regarding the spring as I was wondering the same thing since one of my lights has the spring and the other identical light didn't:

"Inside some fixtures you will find a bare coiled spring wire. This is non-electrical but is designed to break a circuit. ... The spring lays on the bulb itself. If the bulb bursts when in use, the spring sweeps across the filament, cutting the electricity in the circuit. In this way, if water has gotten into the fixture, a live electrical circuit won’t stay in contact with the water, ultimately electrocuting someone in the pool."

What would you recommend for a replacement? Ideally I’d want a fixture with an LED light bulb that’s replaceable.
