Light controller/transformer for multiple lights?

My saltwater pool has 4 10" lights and my spa has 1.
They're intended to work with the iAqualink power-cycle-to-change-color.
They were all bad some time ago, so I replaced them all with 120 V Hawayard LEDs. and within a couple years they were all bad.
So, now I'm back looking to replace some lights.

There are a number of options for 12 V to the light, with an external controller, all much cheaper than Hayward (and I'm not buying from Hayward any more regardless). I tend to think that the external transformer and controller with an ability to directly change color without power cycling sounds nice.

My question is how that would work with so many lights.
I think it sounds like I'd wind up with a bank of 5 transformers by my pool equipment, which is a lot.
I'm also wondering about changing the light colors: is one remote going to change all the controllers? or will I use 5 different remote controls?
and then some of the dynamic modes (e.g., cycling colors) might struggle to have all the controllers in sync?

Has anyone found a controller they like that can control multiple lights?
Have others been satisfied with a multiple controller setup?

Do most people connect the controller to the iAqualink output, or do most people connect the controller to an unswitched AC line? Are there any drawbacks if I connect the controller to iAqualink, and continue to use that to turn the lights on and off?

Does anyone have any tips for pulling the wires through the conduit? I was planning on attaching a string to the existing lights, pulling the string through, and then using the string to pull the new lights back through.

thanks!
Derek
