leaves in impeller - remove without taking pump apart?

When I closed pool last year I noticed the pump motor was running fine but pump wasn't circulating water. I let the basket on the pump fill with leaves and some must have made it through and clogged impeller. Sticking my phone into basket I was able to get some pics. I'm getting a few out with needle nose pliers but it is slow going. They are really wedged in there.

I'd rather not take the pump apart if I can avoid it. it is a sta-rite max-e-pro.

Anyone else been able to remove leaves without taking pump apart? If so, please share technique.

A piece of wire with a very small "hook," about 1/4," will remove most of it. Usually that is enough to get the rest to clear. If it is stuck in the vanes of the impeller the pump will have to be taken apart and the vanes cleared individually by pushing the debris from the outside toward the eye.
