Leave SWG plugged in? Not sure

It takes a few days to fully sink in. When it does, you , 🤦‍♂️, and promptly start kicking yourself for waiting. Hard.

There was always 100 reasons why it wasn't a good time, and you were correct at that time. But man it's nice now. :)

salt is at 2800. I confirmed with the new unexpired test. Seems I could have just trusted the old expired one, but it just felt wrong for a first timer.

I am not sure where the extra 1000 salt came from. Pool math indicates I’ve added about 1600 in salt since the RO. Perhaps the RO did not completely remove the salt? Anyhow, the test is at 2800 so I will go ahead and start by aiming for 3200? Or should I aim for 3400?

1 bag is give or take 319 for you. That's a good start for a first dose as we don't know how it's going to respond. If it hits on the money you'll see about 3200 and if it hits hard there's still room to spare.

Remember that salt has a wide variance and an actual 3000 (or even more) may test 2800. You may see 3400 at the next test which would be nearly double what 1 bag would add from 2800. So we tread gently near target.

Salt, CYA and CH only come out quickly by draining, and that would have bothered you more. :)

Thanks @Newdude I have some salt about 3/4 of a 40# bag that I use to regenerate my water softener so I’ll start by adding that in before I head off to buy more. I should test two days after adding right?

Did you brush it all in?
Run the pump for 24 hours straight after it's added and dissolved - then test again.
24 hours is more than enough - especially when adding only 1 bag.

I brushed it all in and it seems to be dissolved, but I’m not 100% sure. The water is in the upper 70s so that should help it along. I turned on the robot to help mix it around. To be on the safe side I will just check again Wednesday. Will keep everyone posted.

Doing a salt test late tomorrow or early Wednesday will work. If the salt is in range - fire the SWG up.

Check tomorrow for funsies. You won't ever come close to using all the salt drops so you can waste a few tests and never miss them.

I wouldn't dose less than 48 hours apart but it will be neat to see. And. Uh. How 'bout that smart stir ????? It's SUPER nice for the salt test. Those last bunch of drops kinda make some change and then they don't and I always think it would suck for doing by hand. :ROFLMAO:

The SWG is on and producing, but I have a low salt blinking light. I’m leaving the IC60 on as I increase the salt. My goal is 3400, so I’m going to see how close this roughly 75% full bag does (was 40# bag initially). I picked 3400 because that’s what the IC60 manual indicated as ideal - there was a range but I don’t remember it. I’ll test tomorrow afternoon and report back.

It's safest not to do this, since a momentary flow of very salty water through the cell while the new stuff is in process of dissolving can cause a big current spike that's hard on the electronics.

The danger is probably worst with main drains and large amounts of salt. Some here turn off the former (only skimmers on) when adding small amounts and say it's fine.

Oh gosh. Whelp I hope I didn’t break anything. It was all green lights today when I took a look.

It's tomorrow afternoon here !!!
Today’s reading (24 hours) is 3000. All lights were green. Should I continue to add more? Or just stop here?

Since I was on a roll I did a full set of tests. This morning I also adjusted the IC60 to 40% instead of 60%.

I guess I'll be the litmus test for what happens to your electronics when you've literally never done this. Letting it cycle for a day with the SWCG off, that is. When I add salt I usually do it at night (when I have the free time), I only shut off the main drain, brush it all in real good, then open up the main drain the next morning.

One time I completely forgot to shut the main drain and just powered off the pump. Turned everything back on and got a lot of furious beeping from the Aquapure panel and a HIGH SALT warning. Power cycled it and the Aquapure showed 6800 PPM salt (did you know it can read that high?!), which quickly counted back downto 3000. Oops. I'm sure to close the main drain now.
