I hate getting the (#$*% pine needles out of the pump impeller. They're the super skinny kind that go right through the holes in both the skimmer and pump baskets.
Skimmer sock or hair nets. At a previous house / pool we had a severe pine needle problem. Hair nets were a game changer. The only problem was that the pool did not have main drains and the needles could completely block my skimmer if I didnt stay on top of it. Still, it was so much easier to just throw out the filled hair net, rather then pick needles out of my impeller.
