Any advice how to fix leaking hose connections and why I have lots of air in the plastic clear dome of my pump, it seems to not be running normal this year at all.

Can you please upload some pictures? You have a suction side leak somewhere which is drawing air and creating bubbles.
I think my hose connections are the main issue. Is there a better way to secure hoses than with the traditional ring clamp that you tighten with a flat head screw driver?
Hoses can crack and stretch over time. You can either replace the hoses or consider hard plumbing the pool with pvc pipes.
