My own pool has developed a leak. Is it best to let it drain down past the returns to help find if the leak is in the plumbing. I have no main drain. Do I risk damaging the liner leaving the water level that low?

In ground. The returns are about 18-24 inches down. The water is below the bottom of the skimmer already. I’ll take pics when I get home
