Hello All,
About a week or two after i "closed" (covered, remove swcg) my pool last year I had a slight algae problem. I didn't have a proper testing kit at the time, so I dumped liquid chlorine in the pool for several days until things cleared up and water temp was below ~60. I purchased a proper testing kit and maintained a minimum of 1.5FC but typically around 3-4 throughout the winter with liquid chlorine. This is my first winter with a pool as we bought the house August of least year.
Spring has sprung in Texas and water temps have started to rise. A couple weeks back I reinstalled my SWCG and added a couple bags of salt to get it functional, all the while with the pool still covered. My FC consumption has been all over the place the last week or two, until finally within the last couple days, my FC value has skyrocketed, and my usage has gone down. I believe my logs are shared so that you can see the fluctuations.
Question - could I have had lingering algae last November that went "dormant" with the cooler water temperatures, that is waking back up with the warmer water, which has caused my chlorine levels to be erratic? That's the only thing that makes sense to me right now - and the quick rise in my FC levels the last couple days would be indicative of the algae finally being killed off and demand dropping while maintaining a higher output.
What say the experts?
