I am trying to close down my above-ground, 24' vinyl liner pool. The cold weather has arrived! I know; I should've kicked my booty in gear and been on top of it because now I am struggling in the cold

I live in the Midwest (Southern IL) so we have begun to experience below-freezing temps. My pool pump/filter has been running, until today (the water level is too low). I have some algae growth (see photo). I have searched for the right thing to do, but I am not certain the best course to follow. I follow the TFP method and solely use liquid bleach for chlorine. I tested the water (Taylor FAS-DPD). The results are below. I would love to be able to open it up in the early spring looking at least as it does now. I believe I may be too late to get it pristine. So, I am just ready to get it done :)

PH - 8.0
FC - 0
CC - 0
Alkalinity - 70
CYA - 30

Based on this information, what suggestions can I get for my next steps to getting my pool closed down for the winter? Here are my ideas. Please let me know what uan's all think:

-brush it, add some liquid chlorine, brush it again (stir chlorine), drain, & cover
-drain it & cover it (cross my fingers I open it in time before it gets worse)

TIA for all YOUR HELP!!!

Close the pool ASAP.

Open early and deal with the algae problem in the Spring.

ajw22 :)

That's what I will do! I like that response, too

Thank you SO much for your quick reply! I do appreciate it. I get on TFP for all my pool care questions, but have never needed to post; all my answers can usually be found in a forum :) You made this process positive. Thanks!
