Move from here: pool loses water every winter
Just curious if you ever resolved your water loss issue? I have the same exact problem! The first year we had our in-ground, I don't recall losing much, if any, water over the winter. Last year, we lost quite a bit of water, probably half, but it was fine during the swim season. This winter, since October, we have lost all but about 1 ft. The cover has now fallen into the pool and is frozen in place. We've not had any leak issues, no drains near the bottom, so we are puzzled.

Sounds like you've definitely lost more water than you should. Unless you have a cover pump continually pulling water off the cover (and possibly from underneath), there may be a leak. But before we assume the worse, let's get more details.
