I thought I'd share my woes with you by way of introduction. Yes, that is Dory at the bottom of the pool doing her best to keep the water in after a disastrous first attempt at backwashing today (Friday afternoon...on Hawaii... great if you want to surf...not great if you need a repairman). The sand filter valve seems to have imploded and releases water to the drainfield regardless of position.
"Significant deferred maintenance " wasn't understating the issues with this pool. ...although I should be calling it a pond as long as Dory remains on the job. I will have a beer and come back here in better spirits after I get out of these wet clothes (yes I did jump in fully clothed with Dory and a plant pot) to plug the main drain. I'm just happy to have caught it before the level fell below the pebbles.
In the meantime, aloha! I gladly accept any and all advice or suggestions on saving this precarious situation. Kona is in an emergency water restriction due to FIVE wells failing. The one supplying me being the fifth. ...where did I put that beer...
