Just had my liner replaced. Lost 1/2" of water from 8PM til this AM. What next?

Our pool was constantly needing to be refilled last summer. We had a 25+ year old vinyl liner. My pool service company recommended a liner replacement company and they cut out the old one and installed a new one yesterday. It looks great.

I marked the high-water mark last night before bed. This morning, we have lost 1/2" of water. So, I assume, there is some leak somewhere else in the system.

So what next? What can I expect in terms of further costs or procedures. At the worst what am I looking at? I already spent $5000 on the liner and 4 tankers of water.

PS. Also, the liner replacement guys opened the pool (they connected the pump) . I noticed the skimmer isnt working and the water only goes down the drain(?). Perhaps that's where the leak is? Do folks disable their drains and just use the skimmer to recycle the water? Is this something that I can change with one of the valves?

Thank you.

Was the pump running last night when the water level dropped? Or did it drop while there was no pump action? Are there any areas outside the pool that are wetter than they should be or were before last summer?

With the old liner, you didn't happen to let the water level drop until it stopped did you?

Hey there. Thanks for responding. The pump was running (the skimmer wasn't though, only the drain). The guys from the company came back today and plugged up some questionable lines and lights. I filled it up again and will check tomorrow.

You really need to get the liner installer back to figure this out - too many unknowns to diagnose remotely.

Edit: Ah, you beat me to the punch! ;) Hopefully he was able to fix it.
