Just Bought A House With A Pool...Where to Begin?

And this may sound crazy, but is there any chance that this water is green due all the Pineneedles and not algae?

Not likely. The pine needles and such will break down into a fine silt (and maybe that feeds the algae?) but you definitely have an algae problem. With CYA that high, you gotta bump your chlorine higher. Or change out 60% of your water to get back down to a reasonable level. Either way, always check the Chlorine/CYA Chart to find out where your FC should be.

Guys, I think it's time to admit defeat. I was told to maintain at X level and now I'm being told I should have had it at double that. Honestly? Maybe this pool is just too far gone to save. With all the money and time I've spent to get absolutely nowhere, I could have just hired someone and been done with it.

The path you choose is your own. If you bring someone in and decide to come back to tfp, we will be here. I think you can do this as many others have. Had a guy spend 100 days on his pool that was wayyyyyyyyy worse than yours... now he has an oasis..

Prolly with a while bunch of chemicals that don't need to be in there. The great thing about this method is clear water is achieved with minimal chemicals... most "pros" don't care about your pool like you do...

Not sure I care at this point. I just want it done.

I guess I don't get why I was told to not worry about anything but FC when I definitely should have been worried about CYA.

I just feel like I'm getting bad advice that's getting me nowhere. Sure, maybe it would work if I kept doing this for another 100 days but there is absolutely no way I'm doing that.

When you first start out, cya is a guess until it's tested... you checked and it was unreadable so we have to assume it's at 0... added 4 lb of stabilizer which was about 33 cya so even if you had 20 in there we couldn't seen it should be around 50-60 which is normal range... you aren't outside it very far. Even bumping up to 28 shock level isn't that bad... it's not like you have to maintain that everyday forever... it's only to get the crud out if you pool.. then back down to 8ish...
This isn't going to happen overnight... it's an intense process that pays dividends in the end...

We would love to see what the pool guys do that will clear it in two days. Please make notes of what they add and do.

We can get you clear. It is not fast but it works and your pool will be clear and safe to swim in.

How about this? When they clear it come back and we can help set up a schedule to help you keep it clear for the future?

Fill water level?! What's that? Ackkkkkkk.

I realize it won't happen overnight. It hasn't been overnight. It's been going on a week and I've gotten nowhere.

I'm just going to pour the rest of my bleach in and let it go overnight. It's about three bottles. I'll worry about it tomorrow but right now I can't care about it anymore.
