Jet pump not working!

So I obtained a 2005 watkins jetsetter jq hot tub that needed some repairs. Multiple leaks that I have repaired, some wiring issues that I have fixed and a locked up jet pump. I have replaced the jet pump with a used one that I was assured worked (a wavemaster 7000), I know it's used, but came from someone I trust and believe when they say it works. Everything comes on fine, circulation pump, heater, all lights on the control panel, but still no jets. When I turn on the jets I hear a relay clock and see a red light come on on the control board right above the connection for the jet pump, but the pump does not kick on. Obviously the pump could be bad(since it was used) but also I am running this off of an existing 110v outlet. Could it be possible there is not enough volts on this circuit to power the pump? Should I run a dedicated circuit for the tub? Or Is there something else I could look into before ordering a new pump? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

tf,

Welcome to TFP... a great place to find the answers to all of your spa and pool questions, no matter which "Bedford" you live in... :shark:

It appears your Jetsetter (J) can be run off of a 20 amp 115 volt circuit or can be converted to run off of 220 volts. Assuming you are sure that the previous owner did not convert it to 220, then your voltage should be just fine.

I took a quick at the manual and noticed that when running on 115 volts, the Jet pump and heater cannot both run at the same time. If the heater is on, then the Jets will not work.

The first thing you need to do is use a voltmeter and test the input voltage to the jet pump. Even thought you hear a relay click, that does not mean any voltage is getting though the relay or that the click you hear is the right relay.

The pump has to be plugged into a relay board or control board... Use the voltmeter and measure voltage where the pump connects to the controls.. If you have no voltage there, then of course the pump will not run. If you have voltage, then either the pump is bad or maybe it is a 220 volt pump. Your pump needs to be a 115 volt pump. Is your used pump the exact same model pump as your old one?

Do you still have the old pump?

Here is a link to the manual, in case you do not have one... https://www.hotspring.com/sites/default/files/hot-spring_spas_owners_manual_2005.pdf

tf,

I would suspect either a bad relay or the logic that keeps both the pump and the heater from being on at the same time.

I suggest that you check the voltage going to the heater. If the heater is on the pump can't be on. If the heater is off (no voltage going to it) then I would suspect a bad relay.

I know nothing about that specific control board, but would look at it to make sure there is not a fuse or open circuit that is preventing the voltage from getting to the pump. If not, I would replace the relay before I bought a new board.

Thanks,

Jim R.
