Jandy valve actuator “clicking”

Appears that the jandy actuator possibly has teeth broken off of gears. It will turn part way and then click as it attempts to continue turning. I can assist it and it will pick back up and the stop again after a little more movement.
What should I look for when troubleshooting the cause?
Is this something repairable?
I hope to not spend $200 on a new actuator. Thanks so much.

You can try to repair it after you figure out what is wrong and chase parts or just get a new one like below (have installed many with no issues):
