Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Looked like I had a suction side leak that I thought was in the heat pump. The heat pump is dry inside no visible leaks, so it’s not the source. Is it possible to be leaking from the filter shell? From underneath it? How does that even happen? That’s the only surface area I can’t see. All fittings and multiport valve have no visible water leaking. Equipment is 4 years old. What do I do? Appreciate this forum and all your help in advance. Thanks!

Depends. Three leak points from a sand filter tank are 1: The seal at the MPV, 2: The seal at the bottom drain, 3: The tank seam. If its 1 or 2, you can probably fix it and is unlikely to fail completely. If 3, you're definitely on borrowed time - no fix there.

Are all these brands similar in spec? 24" etc. They all look similar to me. Could I swap the tank with a less expensive unit and keep the MPV or do I have to replace the entire thng?

Similar? Yes. However, a new filter like yours will come with a new MPV. Those are usually brand-specific and can't be safely interchanged. You're dealing with a pressure vessel and all parts have to work/seal properly. You can purchase the same size complete filter from Doheny's (a long-time aftermarket dealer) for less than the cost of a tank that may or may not work. Some re-plumbing would be needed, most likely.
