Jandy Pump replacement with Variable Speed Jandy or Hayward ??- Help!

I have a Jandy PHPM1.5 PlusHP pump which I want to upgrade to a variable speed for energy savings and because it is getting old. I was looking at the Jandy VSPHP270JEP because it has the same exact dimensions and in a pinch I can interchange the two pumps without changing any plumbing. Pool Company A is telling me to instead go with the new Jandy VS FloPro VSFHP270 (or VSFHP165) because it is "better" (but not same dimensions so i won't be able to interchange with my old Jandy). Pool Company B is pushing a Hayward TriStar VS 900 because in their experience it is much easier to program and is more weatherproof then the Jandy . Again the Hayward does not have same dimensions as my old Jandy.

My question is should I stick to my guns and insist on Jandy VSPHP270JEP for interchangeability or go with Jandy VS FloPro VSFHP270 or Hayward TriStar VS 900 because these are truly better pumps. Is the Hayward easier to program and more weather proof than the Jandy ?

Any input or experience would be much appreciated. Thank you!

C,

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all pump buying pool owners... :shark:

Is your current pump installed with pump unions? If not it will have to be cut out anyway...

Are you installing the pump or is the pool company??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yes current pump is installed with pump unions so its just a matter of screwing out old pump and screwing in the new one. Regarding your other question the pool company has to install to obtain electricity rebate being offered in my area.

Both the Jandy PHP270 and the FHP 270 are new to the Jandy line of pumps. Both come with a detachable controller you can mount for convenience. I don't know why they are saying the FHP is better when the PHP actually pumps more water at lower rpm's. The Hayward Tristar also has a controller that can be relocated and I believe is easier to program than the Jandy. The JEP controller is not very user friendly, but Jandy has come out with iQPump01 that allows for use of web enabled devices so it is a lot easier to use. Also the FHP has bases included to align the height of your old pump, but not the length. If you want to keep installation down the the PHP 270 would be the easiest to install but I believe it cost more initially. All three pumps come with 3-year warranties but check with the manufacturers Rebates also

Thank you for response very helpful. I did go with the VSPHP270 . Is there a technical manual that provides the energy usage at different RPM?
I agree with others IQPUMP01 option is very easy to program. No need for JEP option (it does not appear IQPUMP01 and JEP can coexist).
