jandy Pump not running and aquacal heater board upgrade not working

My jandy variable pump (2yrs old) is not turning on. I just installed the upgrade HP9 board kit to my aquacal heater to try and get it automated for use by my phone. Heater originally was connected as a 2 wire (only controls heating and not cooling), but I upgraded the heater board so that I can try to get both heating and cooling controlled by phone iaqualink app. I couldn’t get it to work, the heater kept saying High and Low pressure and smart fault. I followed the aquacal tutorial video for a smart bus install, but it still did not work. Well, I placed all wiring, besides the new board ( made sure all wires were still connected snuggly) back like it was so that I can start the pump to circulate water and the pump will not come on. I have tried it via service mode and from the app, but nothing happens. I can see that on the aqua link panel that when I use my app to try and turn pump on, the light comes on for the filter to run, so seems like the connection is getting through to the aqua link, but it is not going to the pump. Not sure what it can be. I checked all the breakers as well. Any thoughts on the pump or the heater? Thanks!

Can you operate the pump separately from the automation when the Aqualink is in Service Mode?

Sounds to be like some RS485 connections are not made or made incorrectly. Be sure you power down the entire panel whenever working on RS485 connections.

I tried to operate pump separate from aqua link and still nothing (no humming or signs of trying to turn on). I tested the pump leads to see if the pump is getting power with my meter and the pump is getting power. I turned off the disconnect breaker at the subpanel to turn off all power to the equipment panel before working on it, and then turned it all back on. While everything was off, I turned the propeller clockwise just in case it was stiff and then tried to turn it back on, but still not working. I also tried to jump the pump with a jumper and switched the dip switches (1 &2 ON; 3&4 OFF) on the pump hoping to bypass any aqua link so I can see if the pump will come on. Still the pump would not come on. Any other ideas? Jandy Epump is only 2.5 -3 years old. I’m at a lost.

What specific model number Jandy VS pump do you have? They make a bunch of them. Put it in your signature.

I did a little more diagnostics and although I was getting power to the pump, it seems like the computer board (capacitor) is not allowing power to go through it, which makes me believe the power is not going to motor itself. So it looks like something may be faulty with the capacitor unless I'm missing something else. When I searched to see can I just replace the capacitor on the unit, I could only find the motor with the housing that the capacitor may or may not be in. Does anyone know if there is a way to only by the capacitor for the unit?

There is no replaceable capacitor for that pump.

It is difficult diagnosing problems on the pump without its own control pad.

Thanks. Just found the paperwork and it looks like it is still under warranty. I will ask the pool company who installed it to see if they can replace the pump. I wonder do they normally just replace the whole pump that day or will they try to fix it and I will be without a pump to circulate the water for who knows how long. Maybe they will provide a loaner. Any thoughts on should I request a loaner when they come out or should I ask them to bring a new pump if possible to replace this one. I assume they would want to come out to diagnose it themselves first, which may delay me from getting a new one soon.

With the current supply chain issues for pool equipment there is no predicting how they will handle a warranty replacement.

While your pump is down pour 5 ppm of liquid chlorine into your pool daily and stir the water with your pool brush.

Thanks for the advise in using the liquid chlorine and stirring the pool water. Having had our pool for the past couple of years, we have been using the TFP method and our pool chemistries have been great. Just worried about it getting out of whack now. Thanks.
