Jandy PLC1400 Replacement Cost

I received the salt cell yesterday. I will install this afternoon and report back.

I am pretty shocked that FEDEX got this thing from Australia to my door step in 3 days. I ordered on the 7th, FEDEX picked up on the 8th, It came into the west coast of the US and all the way over to me on the east coast and delivered on the 10th.

Installed the cell, it was pretty straight forward. I loosely followed this thread Replacement cell for Jandy Aquapure 1400 There were no instructions that came with it. There is also no flow arrows or anything to tell you which direction to install the cell. Since it is basically the same shape and layout as the old Jandy cell, I installed it with the tri sensor near the inlet and the cable at the exit. I also had to open up the Aquapure cabinet and disconnect the old DC power cable and install the new one. Again, no instructions but its two wires so I have a 50/50 shot at getting it right. Instead of red and blue wires I had one brown wire and one blue and one green/yellow wire combined. I hooked red to brown and the blue to the other blue and green/yellow. Once I restored power to the aquapure it started right up with no errors. It did start out with "cell reversing" lit up. I'm not sure if that is a indication that I got the wiring wrong if that's just it's normal thing coming out of a power disconnect. I will keep the old Jandy cell for a dumby cell to use in the winter. I have attached pictures. You can see the corrosion on the old jandy cell. This keeps happening and I'm averaging a cell every 1.5 years because of it. 1st cell was replaced under warranty. This last one only had a 1 year warranty so that's why I went with the generic cell. Hoping the different cable design eliminates it as a failure point.

I have one from the SaltPoolStore but would like to know the Australian manufacturer to consult them about some technical issues. Did you buy from the manufacturer?
Thx,

Thanks for the reply. That phone number no longer works for Compupool, and I saw in a post on Inyo pools from a couple of years ago that INYO could no longer sell the Jandy replacement cell because Compupool quit selling to the US. I guess the Salt Pool Store is selling gray market. I can't get a hold of any tech support from them either. ( email support was successful and rather quick)

Did you try the contact form on their Australian website?

It is huge red flag that the salt cell I purchased last week has a non working website and phone number printed on it. But as long as it lasts more than a year its still better than the a Jandy cell.

"But as long..." True enough. I used the chat on compupool this morning and left a message. The email function would not accept my phone number. Australia has 8 or 9 time zo0nes running 12 to 15 ½ hours ahead of Dallas (CDT) so I will call them tonight. I got a different Australia number from INYO - ‭+61 (0) 7 5596 3773‬.
The Salt Pool Store receptionist says they only do tech support via email so I will give that a try.

I actually got a quick email reply from Compupool which was insightful and satisfactory though slower than a phone consult would have been.

My swg quit working in late fall with wonky readings that suggest it's the Jandy tri-sensor. I was in the middle of working through that issue when my pump went bad, and I am delayed with everything getting the pump parts (impeller, diffuser). Up until then everything was hunky-dory. The joys of owning a pool are without limit.
I hope to update this story soon.

Quick update. After replacing the diffuser, the impeller, the backplate, and a valve actuator, the pump now works. I was hoping pump dysfunction and low flow might be the issue; but uit wasn't. It was a partially cut connection in the tri-sensor wiring to the Jandy power box. I probably stomped on it while fooling with valves and didn't notice it because the cut was incomplete and the wiring was covered with gravel. The Compupool swg is now working again and cranking out chlorine.

How is the cell performing after almost a year of use? Still going strong? Do you have pictures of the set up a bit zoomed out to show how the direction of flow etc.?
I don't think direction of flow matters, but the swg should be the last link in the output chain so that high chlorine levels don't corrode important stuff.

I think mine is dead. Aquapure panel is fine with no errors but Im getting no bubbles out of my returns like I should be getting. Im giving up on Jandy SWGs altogether and ordered a CurcuPool RJ-60 plus. Its only a few hundred more than a Jandy 1400 cell replacment. If it last 2 years it will be worth it considering how much I have paid for replacement cells so far.

There would always be an error on the panel with a bad cell. Run it at 100% and see what happens.

It was very easy. I'm usually a DIY so I was comfortable doing the plumbing. I cut out the jandy unit and put the RJ SWG and flow switch in its place. My biggest problem which turned out to be nothing is that the jandy SWG was in the plumbing about 15ft away from my main pool pump and Jandy control panel. So I though I was going to have to extend or replace the power cord on the RJ unit. after some investigating, i discovered that my Jandy SWG box that was on the wall was already wired to the pump relay so the power to the Jandy was turned off and on when the pump was off and on. So I just mounted the RJ box next to the Jandy SWG box and routed the RJ power cable into the Jandy box. I disconnected the power from the Jandy and connected it to the RJ and I was done. My Jandy SWG box is now just a glorified junction box.

Now question for the experts, the Jandy SWG box is bonded to the system. Since I have the ground wire of the RJ connected to the ground block in the Jandy box, do I still need to bond the RJ box separately?

Bonding and grounding are two seperate things for different reasons.

If the box has an external bonding lug, it should be connected to the bonding grid.

Got it! I attached a #8 bare copper wire to the bonding lug and then connected it to the existing bonding wire running along my equipment pad. As I was looking around I noticed that a pool pump I had replaced under warranty a couple years ago did not have the bonding wire hooked back up so I was able to fix that as well.
