I have a Jandy JEP-R Variable-Speed Pump Digital Controller attached to my Jandy Pro Series VS FloPro Variable Speed Pump HP1.65. Both installed around May/June 1016.

The buttons on the controller do not seem to be working. When the pump is running and I go to push either the estar or #2 button to change speeds, nothing happens. Same is true if you try the change the menu, increase/decrease the speed, turn it off/on, nothing. Right now it is just set in the off position. That happened after cutting power to it at the breaker. Problem is I can't even get it back on and running to cycle the water while I wait for a professional. Every now and then if you hit a button it'll work, like once. But then no more.

Issue seems to be the controller, because the pump appears to be working fine when the controller shows on and is running at a high or low speed. Also called Jandy today and they believe it is the controller. Said if I have a licensed pool technician they can walk them through the steps to check it with a volt meter, but they couldn't work with a home owner. I have a volt meter and was ready to go! :-(

Anyway, anybody know the process to check it, or solutions, or stores that accept electronic waste?!

Thanks,
Eug

I created a signature but not sure it saved correctly. We'll see as soon as I press enter.

Try this:
First, make sure that the keypad is not locked by pressing the up and down arrow simultaneously for about five seconds. If the keypad was unlocked, it will lock it. If that doesn't work, unlock the keypad and try this:

Turn off power to the pump.
Open compartment where power wires connect.
Note wire color order at the red 4 wire connector.. It should be 1)Red 2)Black 3)Yellow 4)Green.
Disconnect the two center wires (black and yellow) of the four wire set connecting the JEP-R to the pump.
Don't let the ends touch anything or each other.
Turn on power and load defaults.
Turn off power.
Reconnect the two center wires.
Turn on power.
Reprogram settings.

The power center supplies the controller 10 VDC via the two (2) outside wires (red and green) of the four (4) conductor cables. The two (2) inner wires (yellow and black) provide the two-way communication link between the controller and the power center.

By disconnecting the center wires, you should be able to regain the ability to load defaults.

Check for 10 volts DC to the red and green wires if the above process does not work.

If you have 10 volts dc to the controller and the above procedure did not work, you probably need a new JEP-R.

Below is the procedure to load defaults, which resets settings to factory settings.

The controller must be in the OFF mode before entering the user setup mode. While in setup mode the controller will return back to the OFF mode after one (1) minute since the last key press.
To enter the service setup menu, press and hold MENU, then press and hold the "star" and speed "4" keys. Hold all three (3) keys down for five (5) seconds. To exit, press any speed button
To restore factory default settings to the controller, from the service setup menu, select LOAD DEFAULTS. Press MENU. Using the arrow keys, select YES. Press MENU to restore factory default settings.

Thanks JamesW! Gotta head out for about an hour and then will give it a try.

Also, the answer to the first question is that no, the keypad is not locked. It did lock on me once last night after I hit the up arrow just once. Not both at the same time for 5 seconds.

I'll let you know how this goes.

Wanted to follow up in case anyone else needed the info. The reason for my controller was what I would have imagined. If you look at the controller there are two arrows on the top right. After looking to try and find all kinds of ways the system could have been locking up I finally found where the bottom arrow had a small sliver of plastic on it that was protruding on the side/bottom. So while the arrow from the top looked correct and flush with the other buttons, it was actually constantly in contact with the keypad internally. Causing the buttons not to work at all, except every once in a while when pressed just so while standing on one leg and holding your mouth just right!

After gently trimming back the piece of plastic, I put everything back together and its worked perfectly since. Before I was about ready to throw it in the pool.

Thanks for the help JamesW !!!
