Equipment Overview:

1. Controller: Jandy iAquaLink 3.0 with firmware version 4.3.13-e.
2. Pump: Jandy Variable Speed Pump (VSP).
3. Salt Chlorinator: Jandy AquaPure.
4. Power Configuration:
• Pump powered directly from its breaker, bypassing relays.
• AquaPure connected through RS485 alongside the pump and AquaLink via AquaPure board.
5. RS485 Connections:
• Pump and AquaPure sharing the same RS485 terminal on main board
• RS485 devices currently detected: iAquaLink and Pump (AquaPure not appearing)

Issues and Observations:

1. Pump Issue:
• The pump initially displayed an RS485 error and was not detected or powered.
• Resolved by bypassing relays and connecting power directly from the breaker to the pump.
• Pump now appears in the RS485 device list and operates as expected.

2. AquaPure Offline:
• AquaPure is no longer detected in the RS485 device list since making changes to the pump wiring.
• It shares the RS485 connection with the pump and iAquaLink due to the lack of a spare RS485 terminal.
• I do not get a RS485 connection error as no power is going to the unit from the board

3. Firmware Challenges:
• The AquaLink firmware I think is outdated (4.3.13-e), I want to update it to see if it resolves my issue although I can't find a clear way to do so.
• The iAquaLink 3.0 app and interface does not show a “Firmware Update” button.

Steps Taken to Resolve the Issues:

1. Pump Setup:
• Configured the pump’s DIP switches correctly for RS485 communication.
• Bypassed relays to provide direct power to the pump. My old 2-speed pump was connected through these relays.
• Pump now communicates with iAquaLink.

2. AquaPure Troubleshooting:
• I Connected the relay powering the AquaPure board, but there was no change.
• Verified AquaPure RS485 wiring is correct

3. Firmware Update:
• Verified that the iAquaLink app does not provide a firmware update button.

Questions:

1. AquaPure RS485 Connection:
• Could the AquaPure require a dedicated RS485 connection instead of sharing with the pump?

2. Firmware Upgrade:
• How can I update the AquaLink firmware without a “Firmware Update” button in the app or interface?

3. Power Configuration:
• Does the AquaPure require additional power connections beyond its current relay setup?

Additional Context:

The AquaPure was functioning prior to configuring the pump, and both devices were sharing RS485 at that time (with the old pump). The pump’s operation required bypassing the relay, but this may have impacted AquaPure communication or power delivery.

I appreciate any advice or suggestions from others who have faced similar issues with Jandy equipment. Looking forward to your insights! See some additional photos.

VS pumps require continous power.

Two RS-485 wires can be placed under one screw.

Do you have one red RS-485 connector or two?

Aqualink firmware can only be changed with a CPU board replacement.

You need at least Rev O for VS pump support.

Thanks -

The board has two RS-485 connectors - #1 has the VS pump and AquaPure connected #2 Aqualink connected.

My current Firmware is 4.3.13-e and Aqualink Rev is X.

My understanding is that my current Firmware/Rev is close enough to the current offering and upgrading will probably not solve my RS-485 issue (not recognizing the AquaPure connection).

OK, you have a new Aqualink and VS pump with serial addressing. What DIP switches did you change?

Is the pump setup as the filtration pump in Aqualink?

Where is the power to the Aqualink board connected?

Show us your VS pump setup pages.

Apologies for the delayed response, I have been trying to troubleshoot.

The pump DIP switches are off (default) and set to Filtration.

The main issue is that I am not getting power to the Aqualink board which used to be connected to the same relay as the old Pump although the new Pump is connected directly. The pump is working as expected.

The AquaPure board is connected to the Aqualink via RS-485.
The AquaPure transformer is connected to the relay where the old pump used connect (Two black lines connected to the top left relay in the photo attached).
The old pump (and above relay) was also connected to the lower right relay which connected to Aux 2 on the Aqualink board.

Do I connect the 2 hot lines from the Aqualink board directly to the Pump power line? Or do I bring power to the top left relay? Or another way?

Thanks!

Aqualink power should not be connected to LOAD side of a relay.

Aqualink should have continuous power. Not switched through a relay.

Sorry - I was referring to the Aquapure transformer (board) which was connected to the relay - should this board have continuous power and not through the relay? ie. Connect the two black (hot) lines with the pump to the same breaker.

Aqua pure should be connected to LOAD side of filter pump relay.

I don’t see any power connected to LINE side of filter pump relay.

Correct - the Aqua pure is currently connected to LOAD side of the relay as it was with the old non-VSP pump. The Pump was connected to the same relay with the Aquapure. Now that I connected the new VSP pump bypassing the relay with continuous power, how should I connect this relay where the Aqua pure is connected? Do I run 2x hot lines (RED & BLACK), the same lines that feed the pump, the the terminals left (LINE) of the Aqua pure connections on the relay?

Connect CB to left side of LINE screw and pump to right side of LINE screw.
