Jacuzzi JPDS automatic Calcium Descaler

Has anyone tried one of these? Seems a bit hokey, like magnetic products in the water treatment industry... Costs $310 but might be worth it if my calcium deposits disappeared from the waterline (my pool tends to drift to pH 8 with bleach injection). Here's the details from Leslies Pool:

The Jacuzzi JPDS Calcium Descaler is easy to install and ready for instant use! The durable control box is waterproof to withstand the elements and the power supply includes a heat shrink sheath to protect the connection. So, how does it work? Once the unit has been installed correctly on the pool circulation system, it will pass a radio signal into the water. This causes the calcium ions to precipitate in suspension in the water instead of on the surface of the pool. Existing scale will also be removed over a few weeks and any staining will disappear with it.

It’s pseudoscience … electronic/magnetic descalers have no basis in science and there hasn’t ever been a peer-reviewed journal paper that has supported its claims. It’s only function is to part you from significant amounts of your hard earned money.

Google a little bit and found these articles...

Removal and/or prevention of limescale in plumbing tubes by a radio-frequency alternating electric field inductance device

Improvement of Hard Water Characteristics and Scale Formation Under the Effect of Pulsating Electromagnetic Field

Interesting the second article says PVC pipes are "much effective than the galvanized iron and copper pipes."

Can you balance your water so pH 8 is not scaling? The experts can give better detail but with TA (assuming CYA around 40) around 50-60, pH ceiling will be around 8.1. With whatever your normal temp and TDS are, get your CH set for CSI around 0. If that’s do-able for your fill water situation, might help your scaling issue (without radio signals precipitating ions into suspension — whatever nonsense and self-contradiction that is supposed to mean).
