Is this Polaris unit a good cleaner?

The PR28P is just a Polaris 280. Many of them are running in many, many, many pools all over the place. Including mine. To this day I can't justify a robot because the Polaris one of the most "set it and forget it" things I own. It runs every night for 30 minutes (Though I set it for an hour in the fall when lots of garbage is dropping into the pool) and once a week I clean the bag out. No charging, no changing batteries, no nonsense. Never have any junk on the bottom of the pool.

Now that I've summoned the robot enthusiasts.. :)

I assume as part of your build they included a booster pump for a pressure-side cleaner?

I have a robot and a Polaris 280. I'd say both perform similarly about 75% of the year, but the robot does a better job during heavy leaf drop season, and also scrubs the walls better. The robot is more energy efficient, the 280 is more convenient (leave in the pool 24/7, no wire running across the pool deck). The 280 is user serviceable and can last decades, the robot uses lots of proprietary parts and will likely be "machanically totaled" when it needs its first major repair.

I would assume so since the PB is giving me this cleaner? Otherwise it won't work right?

How do you "set it" is it programmable or that arranged through your pools control panel?

Do you just leave it in all of the time?

I would think they would give you a booster.. but I've seen pool builders do weirder/dumber things! :ROFLMAO:

The booster pump is usually set up as a "cleaner" in the automation. When you activate/schedule the cleaner, it turns on the booster pump, which runs the Polaris.

Yep, it stays in the pool all the time, unless you want to take it out so it's not in the way.

Can you fill out your signature so that we can see what automation and other equipment you're working with? Any pictures of your equipment pad?

Got some good pics and details in my pool build thread including the equipment pad/install. Think the only thing missing from the pad pic is the intelli-center install.

Thanks for the link, I do see what looks to be a Pentair Boost-Rite pressure side booster pump next to your filter.

That's a start!

Intellicenter Control w/salt generator, Polaris 380 and Booster Pump, Ultra Temp 140k BTU Heat Pump, Pentair Whisper flo variable speed pump, Jandy WaterColors Nichless LED lights, 3 deck jets.

I bought a cordless robot recently but I guess my pool build comes with a cleaner too. Guess it doesn't hurt to have a back up.View attachment 558426
The only one I would recommend. Mine's been in my pool for 20+ years. Yes, it does take replacing parts that wear out, and there are good aftermarket parts (CMP) that work as well or better than OEM that cost less. If you can, get a CMP bag for it, it is larger and the Velcro seems to last longer. If your original bag has a zipper, you'll want to change that anyway the next time you need a bag, the zippers don't last that long.
I appreciate that the throat of that cleaner (a re-named 280, as has been said) is large enough to pick up a golf ball. Had a pool I serviced for a while that backed to a golf course. Each week there were one or two golf balls in it. Could never figure out how it rolled over them, but they were there.

A golf ball? That's good, cause I have sweet gum balls that will be falling into my pool.:brickwall:

Appreciate the input, CMP sand/silt bag ordered.
