As I was cleaning my filters, I noticed this part is broken. Does it need to be replaced? Will it affect the function of the pool if it is damaged?

Typical damage to a Hayward bottom-manifold filter that is not cleaned often enough or has a pump that is too large. It will happen again if not watched.
