Is this an easy fix?

Well, do you have experience with masonry work? I’d say that any decent mason with brick laying experience could easily knock out those corner coping bricks, replace the broken one and then seal everything back up again. The mortar between the bricks won’t look the same as the old mortar so it might be more noticeable/catchy to the eye.

Any idea on how that brick got cracked? How long has it been that way?

I do not have experience with masonry work, unfortunately. The home was purchased 4 months ago along with the pool issues, so I don't know how long its been in that condition. How big a job is this for a mason man?

Once the mortar is dry, is there any water proof paint I can use to paint the mortar one color? Probably not, but thought I'd ask. :)

Thanks!
