Just to update the team, I ripped up the wires from yesterday, my first 220v wiring job, and started over today:
I found that this irrigation tubing cutter does a nice job on the electrical conduit:
And, I learned how to remove the old multi-piece waterproof fittings from the old conduit:
I realized it's easier to first get the conduit all settled, and then do the wiring:
I cut off the old connectors at the motor end, and put new crimp connectors on:
And I made sure to leave at least six extra inches of wire in the junction box:
Since it's outside, I added di-electric grease to all the connections:
And, when I compared the old and new wire, I belatedly realized the old wire was smaller than the 10AWG that I bought:
I wasn't sure if we're supposed to use di-electric grease under the wire nuts:
And then, just before buttoning it up, I tilted the wire nuts upward, and high:
Here's a birds-eye view of the result, just before putting the waterproof cover on:
I wasn't sure if I needed to raise the box off the ground, so I will attach it with bolts later:
And, here's the view all done - ready for the smoke test tomorrow (as I finished well after dark):
