Is There a Pool Finish with Even Color?

My plaster is on its way out. It's at least 10 years old if now older I didn't help it by draining the pool, but I had a pump failure and the water was not worth saving. I will say the water looks incredible now, but there have been some bumps showing up on the floor of the pool, which from reading here is caused by microcracks.

So I'll be up for a plaster job soon. Currently, it has blue plaster, which I like the color of. However, it has "clouds", blue with uneven white mixed in. I would like a blue finish again, but I would like a finish that has even color if that's even possible. I was reading here that people with quartz even have problems with even color. I think the pebble finishes would be too rough for me, since I like to swim laps and push off the wall.

Any suggestions?

Plaster is a hand applied finish whose variations depend on the crew's abilities, the weather, and the water is added and the plaster start-up.

It is possible if the plaster company knows what they are doing.

White can still have variations but its the best bet over a colored plaster in this day and age of incompetents in the pool industry!

THIS ^^^^^^ is the main thing for any color of plaster. It all really depends on the skills of the installers. You can do a very light blue or white plaster that will not show the variations as much.

I appreciate the input. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find people who do good quality work for anything. That's why I was hoping for some finish that is less skill dependent.

As other TFP contributors have mentioned above, it is very difficult to achieve a solid uniform and consistent color when plastering. If you prefer a slight blue color, I suggest using a blue colored quartz aggregate along with white cement. It is when using a color pigment (that is added to the white cement) which becomes problematic. And of course, poor workmanship can also be an issue too as the above article indicates.
