Is my water clear enough to stop SLAMming?

Hi, we are new to pool ownership and enjoying learning a lot as a family. We were slack on the FC so the pool went cloudy. I read up some more and knew we needed to SLAM. So I've been at it for a week (note sand filter is piddly) and now I'm feeling a bit OCD about the clarity of the water. Is this clear enough to progress to the overnight chlorine test? I think it still looks a little brownish but maybe I'm being paranoid. Thank you.

The quarter 🪙 test is helpful for determining clarity - as our eyes can play tricks on us.
Throw one in & see if you can read heads or tails - if not, you have a little bit more to go before counting it as crystal clear & stopping SLAM Process even if you pass the oclt. You’re definitely clear enough to do the oclt & see where you stand. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t pass the 1st night, the finish line is definitely in sight!

The requirements for ending the SLAM DO NOT involve an objective test for clarity.

1. Your Pool water is crystal clear with no visible sign of algae
2. You passed the OCLT losing not more than 1 ppm of FC
3. Your CC's test is either .5 ppm or 0 ppm.

That "crystal clear" in #1 above has to be your opinion. The OCLT is a darn good indicator, however

Thanks, I found the coin helpful

Hey Peeters!!!

Once you hit TFP clear, the still water will reflect whatever is behind it at times and with all that color behind you, it may be misleading. You have a few colors back there and the water may mimic any of them, or any combo of them.

Take a lap around the pool to see if the water looks different from another angle.

You can also turn on the pump and create movement to break up the mirror-ing. Your focus point will become distorted, yet crystal clear. (Once it's good) Toss some dive toys in (etc) and check it out

Thanks everyone, it seems to go back and forth between looking really good and as above, but we passed the OCLT last night.
That’s great 👍🏻
If you’re gun shy there’s no harm in holding slam for one more day while your filter catches up & you reach How Clear is TFP Clear? status. Better to go an extra day & be certain than have to begin again.

What kind of filter do you have?

I see you have an intex type pool so be sure to scrub all the flaps/seams, they are a notorious hiding place along with the ladder.
