trying to finalize my pool design. i currently have a sun ledge but am debating a bench in the deep end too. is it overkill to have that much? its a big pool but not sure if its worth $3k or not. one of those things where half of me thinks its better to spend the money and not regret it and the other half of me thinks its not really needed and wouldn't be missed.

that design and layout but no spa and its not to my scale.

It's entirely up to you. We have a play pool with a 6" deep "big first step" and three steps on one end and on the other end we have two bench seats. The grandkids love to swim the length of the pool and rest on the benches. Even while our kids grew up with the 22 year old pool the seats were still used often by them and my wife and I. Look down the road and decide.

I like the bench seat in the deep end, but then I’m a fan of pool seating! 😀 is your family always swimming when in the pool? Or would you benefit from an extra sitting area? At my house, adults usually like to have a seat in the pool and the kids are a mix of the two, but mostly swimming and jumping.

Due to the size of the pool I would suggest a way to exit the deep end be added , the cost is actually on point.

On a side note, I had the opportunity with my previous employer to spend two weeks in Ukiah, what a beautiful area and great people in the community, we were treated so well by the locals.

No doubt on the deep end bench. I have them in both corners. And a bench across the whole shallow end and wrapping around, and one in the middle of one side. There is also a standing level next to each of the deep end benches (though that could have been a little deeper). They are 18" and 36". I would have preferred 18" and 42".

I was given full authority by the CFO to build what I wanted. When she asked for a bench, I was sad to give up valuable deep end space but she only asked for *one thing*. Lol.

I went with an 8ft bench which doubles as an exit so we felt better going ladderless. I quickly became a huge fan and it's one of my favorite things. I smile and tell the CFO she was so right whenever it comes up.

I want to do something similar with my build. I have 4 young boys, I’m concerned with them forgetting about the bench when they are horsing around when they jump in and getting hurt. Have you had any issues?

I may compromise and do the small 45 degree benches in each corner, that way less potential for issues when they jump in.

up to you and how you think your family will use the pool. we have a wrap around bench all along the deep end. i opted for lots of seating because our pool if basically just for recreation and relaxing. we do not "swim laps".IMG_9873.JPG

I would mark the benches with accent tiles to make them more visible. They will get to know the pool very quickly and won't hit the benches when jumping in. Or, they will only hit them once before figuring it out :poke:
