Is 2 hours a day too little?

I run mine 2 hours daily, but I have no SWG.

It all depends on how much time you need to generate your daily chlorine dose.

I've heard for a pool your size 4-5 hours might do it, but I'd probably start at 6
and work your way down from there.

Pool is about 75K litres....

We have a single speed hayward 1/2 HP pump. Is 2 hours per day enough run time?

Cheers
Tom

No. Your pool (75k litres) is about 30,000 gallons (same as my pool). You need to ensure that all of the water in the pool is passed through the filter at least once per day. It's not about the horsepower rating of the pump, but the actual flow volume pumped per hour (which is dependent on a few variables like the rating of the pump, the size of the lines, the distance it has to travel, etc.). 30,000 gallons flowed through the filter in 2 hours would require 15,000 gallons per hour; that's an industrial sized flow. My pool can make it on 6 hours per day; I always set it for 8 hours.

Is the concern the amount of power it consumes? Or do you have another reason you wouldn't want to turn it on 1/3 of each day?

I bought my pump & filter combo together. This was before I realized about 2 speeds. It's a 1HP filter for 5,000 gallons and I have a SWG. I run 2-3 hours a day depending on the time of year. I usually pour in a cup of bleach a week to maintain my levels.

Thanks all.

I plan on bumping the chlorine with a full jug before we leave. I have just installed a pump timer, and turned swg on to 100%. Plan is to run pump for a two hour stint in the am, followed by a 90 min stint in the pm. My wife thinks I am going overboard (70$ on the timer), and that the pool “probably won’t turn into a swamp”...well I just don’t want to risk it...figure it will cost me at least 70$ in bleach if I do come home to a swamp... oh well. I am already in the dog house! She won’t be the one who has to deal with the swamp, soooooo.....
