Introduction and New Pool Startup

Well, you can always check for yourself. Open the air relief valve on the top of your CCP520. If water shoots out, which it should, that means your filter cartridges are completely covered and filtering. If you hear air for a few seconds then water then the filter needed to be bled of the trapped air.

Oh, I run my vsp at 1400 overnight. 1550 during the day and when I want to skim 1800 rpm. All on a schedule.

he said that for the filter to be doing anything it really needs at least 10PSI (around 2400 RPM on the VSP).

Ha ... HAHa ...HAHAHAHA!!!!

Needed a good laugh.

My pump runs at 1700 RPM and a filter pressure of 5-7 PSI and the pool stays TFP clear.

Ok, thanks for the validation. I'll probably just let them do what they're doing for the startup period so that we don't run into them claiming I didn't listen or anything if there's a warranty issue at any point, but after they're done in 30 days I'll dial it in.

He said that would be a problem because the filter would only be using the bottom part of the cartridges, he said that for the filter to be doing anything it really needs at least 10PSI (around 2400 RPM on the VSP)

Just to add to your validation...

My pump runs at 1200RPM for 19 out of 24 hours a day. Runs at 2700 the other 5, for the infloor cleaner. And then random increases in speed for spa usage.

At 1200 RPM I have literally 0 psi in my filter housing. Yet every time I clean my filters, they are very evenly coated with dirt.

Welcome! Same here, except!
"Hello! This is my first post of any significance, but I have been reading and trying to absorb as much knowledge as I possibly can—"
In my case, it’s more of a continual flushing, removing incorrect habits and relearning! Multiple CPR sessions involved!

A thought on injecting air under the cover when you retract it. Do you have a blower for the spa? Possibly a readymade solution!
No, no blower, there's just an air inlet that (I think) uses the water pressure to suck air through when the spa is on, but no blower...I suppose something could be hooked up to that air inlet pipe though?

Nice pool.

I run my variable at 1600 24/7 except when skimming or adding chemicals. No issues at all.

Also do you have the plaster company break in period. When I did my quarts from Diamond brite I had to follow thier breakin. So when I was wanting to try and balance and add acid or chlorine I was at thier mercy so there were no issues. Make sure you have that and follow that. They are all different but kinda similiar. I know I had to keep my chlorine on a pretty low end which always had me worried. it was a week by week process for 30 days with me brushing multiple times a day.

Yes, it's through pebble tech and the PB said that I need to follow what they (and the startup tech) says for the first 30 days, and my only job is to brush 3 or more times per day. Then on day 30 they hand the keys of the kingdom over to me. So I'm trying to play nice with these startup techs for the first 30 days in case we ever run into warranty issues down the road. But I'm brushing morning, afternoon and night and trusting that their process will result in the longest lasting finish (or at least the best warranty).

yah I mean get a copy of it so you know what they are doing and as they add stuff check them with your kit. simple as that. my builder gave me the start up and let me run with it, but I had a 2 personal coaches from here to walk me through any questions. lol only issue I had with startup was keeping that really low chlorine level during august heat. ph was always high cause it was new plaster through that first end of season and into my second full season. took a while for my quartz to settle in.

Alright, new question (should I be creating new threads for these little things?). Is there a trick to getting this skimmer lid off? Without using the handle of some pliers or something, otherwise it’s “impossible” to get off by hand. It looks incredible, and I’m very happy with the looks, but I can’t get it off if my life depended on it with out a tool.

I suspect what happened is that the frame bowed in a tiny bit when the deck was poured, which is putting pressure on the skimmer lid. Mine is round so that wouldn't happen, but with the square format it would be more likely. It's probably getting stuck more in one direction than the other. If you can determine which direction that is, you could try sanding down the fixed portion. Though at the same time I'm not a fan of doing so as it could become more likely to had dirt/grime adhere to it since it may not be as glossy anymore.

An easier first option is to spray or put some pool lubricant along the outer edges of both to see if reducing the friction helps enough. Something like this... https://www.amazon.com/Hayward-SPX0...ocphy=9008063&hvtargid=pla-350620587513&psc=1 or this which I use for the equipment pad items like the filter housing and pump cover... https://www.amazon.com/Lubegard-75200-Zer0-Pool-Lubricant/dp/B00KCCT17O

Ok. I just ordered some of that Zer0 stuff, we'll see if that helps
