Intex Skimmer on Funsicle

Hello all! I’m learning lots of things with my new easy set pool. I ordered a skimmer so that I wouldn’t have to clean so much.
Right now, I keep it covered whenever we aren’t in it. At night I go over it with the net, check chemicals, cover it, and make sure the pump is on all night.
With the skimmer, it says not to run the pump when the pool is occupied, and to take it off before you put on the cover. So when exactly am I gonna be running this skimmer?!?
Would I run it during the day when we’re not in it? I don’t know that it will do a better job running rather than having it covered when we’re not in it. Thanks for any help or advice

The skimmer won't do much if the pool is covered. The solar cover will catch almost everything.

The purpose of a skimmer is to skim stuff off the top. If you have a cover, it will dump everything in the pool when you take it off. You can just use a net and pick it up.

I too have a cover. When the cover comes off, I just use a skimmer on a pole and get everything.

Lol, I know the feeling! I feel like I'm surgically attached to my skimmer during pool time, but I keep my pool covered at night, too, so I didn't get the auto-skimmer. Just obsessing over pine needles etc inbetween cooling off.
