Intex pump run Dry

I came home to find my husband had switched the sand filter pump on without opening the valves on the pool.
It is an intex pump .
It may have run dry for up to 4 hours.
It still seems to be working ( maybe a bit more noisy ). Should I be worried and is there anything I need to check?
I am frightened to use it now!
Any advice would be much help.

As long as it runs and is not leaking it should be fine. Just curious, was there a reason the valves were closed?

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.
I sometimes close the valves if I'm out all day. It's silly really, but I get paranoid about leaks developing in the pipes.
I think I'll leave them open from now on !

Yeah, what's the worst thing that could happen if you did spring a leak? Your pump could run dry, D'OH!
