Hello,

As I am watching and preparing for the colder temps, my plan is to leave my pool running 24/7 for the next couple of days. I wrapped the pool equipment PVC pipes with some pipe insulation as a precautionary measure and will also cover with a tarp.

I know this is a silly questions but to avoid having to go out at night to turn the pump on. I turned the pump on manually this morning since it's pretty cold out due to wind chill. If I removed the on and off tripper will the pump run non stop until I manually switch it off again and place the trippers back on?

Also, as shown in the photo for my polaris switch/timer, the on tripper is broken where I cannot get this tripper off to replace it. I appreciate suggestions with how best to remove the tripper without damaging the timer wheel or anything else.

Many thanks,

and on your second issue, maybe drill the screw out of the broken tab and replace? just use a small bit and go very slowly. And most importantly, use caution unless you disconnect the power (and you probably should prior to attempting). You can also try a pair of pliers and see if you can wiggle it around gently and remove it.

thank you! I tried the pliers but it wasn't budging, probably because it looks like it's been this way for a long time. I will try it again when the cold weather moves out.

If the booster pump ON toggle is at the correct time then leave it alone.

You only need to remove the OFF toggle when you want the pumps to run continuously.

Your timer mechanism is old and will eventually need replacement anyway. They wear out.

Agree, replacement of the timer is on my list of repairs foe the pool.

I am looking into a digital timer with freeze control. I am hoping to find a reasonably priced timer that I can easily swap in to replace the current one

I have not found a digital timer with freeze control that can handle pool pump amperage. Let me know what you find.

That's a 1HP pump, right? Before I got my new pump with automation, I used one of these and I loved it. It doesn't have freeze protect but you control it from an app on your phone so you can always turn it on when you're worried about the temperature. You might even be able to use IFTTT to do that automatically.

For me this replaced a Tork mechanical timer installed by the PB that never ever worked correctly.

An Intermatic P1353ME timer will fit into your existing box. There is a freeze-control module that can be installed with it. Easiest way to prevent freeze is to run the pump continuously, or at least during what are commonly called the "freezing hours," 2AM - 8AM. If you expect it to be near freezing all day, run the pump all day.

Thanks Riny, yes my pump is a 1hp. So does this product replace the old style intermatic timer i have or just an add on to it

You'd remove the intermatic timer and install the wifi one in its place. You can use the app on your phone to set programs like a normal timer, or to do a manual override and turn it on/off from anywhere on demand. I found mine to be easy to install/use, totally reliable, and a fraction of the price of most other options.
